Kuwesa Network Group
A 503(c)(3) association, HandcraftsKuwesa ("To Be Able") is a group dedicated to the goal of helping people in need gain the skills and resources to sustain themselves, recover from the hard times they've been through and improve their lives from this point forward. The handmade crafts we offer are made with love and pride by our members in Kenya, imported by Friends and are now available to you through our website and Etsy store!
- Kuwesa began in 2007 as an income generating project for support groups in Kenya, many of whom were widowed by H.I.V. The group began to supply locals who tested postive for H.I.V. with bio-sand water filters, producing clean water without the use of energy or chemicals. The results were immediate; chronic bowel issues had disappeared within a week of installation, and all those who shared the filter said they "felt better." - In Kenya, a baby born alive has a 15% chance of never seeing their 5th birthday. Although the original purpose was to help people who had been diagnosed with H.I.V., the most obvious result was the reduction of mortality from diarrheal diseases and malaria in children aged 2 to 5 years old. Safe water prevents the severe diarrhea that kills in this age group and has made the malaria in Kenya a survivable disease by reduction of co-morbidities. - The project has proven to dramatically reduce the yearly death rate in this age group from roughly four or five children per village to zero children per village (with populations ranging from 400 to 625). - In the pilot area of Maganda, the availability of easy safe water through the use of bio-sand water filters reduced mortality from five children per year to none. - Your support is always appreciated, and any contributions we receive will allow us to continue to make lasting changes in peoples' lives. Thank you for checking out our page, and have a great day! - Kuwesa is both a ISec., 501(c)(3) USA and a Communitiy Based Organization.
