Finding God
Prayers & Spiritual Practices from Many Traditions
Barbara “Shulamith” Clearbridge, M.Div-AuthorThis is a small book with big ideas to ponder, meditations, stories, quotations, poetry, ceremonies and rituals, and prayers from diverse spiritual traditions from around the world
A wide range of subjects are covered, including ideas about Who/What God is, how to establish a prayer practice, fears about God, prayers of many kinds from many cultures and religions including for healing, honoring, giving thanks, comfort, trauma, blessing, and many more, about praying alone or with others, praying for others, atonement, and even a bit of historical information about early religions. The book is not divided into chapters, but grows organically from first questions and beginning prayers through more complete practices and more complex issues, to mature prayer practices leading to experiences of oneness and joy. The book is intended as a workbook, and so includes blank pages for the reader to write her/his own prayers or thoughts. An integral part of the book is an exploration of how to find one’s purpose in life, as this is an essential part of connecting with the divine. Barbara “Shulamith” Clearbridge is a member of Middlebury Friends Meeting in Vermont. She has recently moved to Secane, PA. Shulamith is an interfaith spiritual director, workshop leader, and writer.
